Drake, a popular hip-hop artist, currently has a song on the charts featuring Nikki Minaj called, “Make Me Proud”. The song has a head-bopping beat that could make a brother get his groove on. Now I’m not encouraging anyone to go out and buy this track since the lyrics are, shall we say…mature (at best). However, the title itself as well as the general message of the song makes me think of my wonderful wife, Adi.
Adi is the kind of woman who thinks of others before she ever considers herself. Not defined by a career or by her role as a mother, she has the freedom to be herself at all times. Honest, loving, caring, and nurturing. Smart, inventive, and handy. As I look back at the nearly twenty years that we have known each other, I am still discovering new things about her. She makes me proud.
We are raising three children together. Just when we thought we were moving our two oldest children into pre-tween-dom, she presents the opportunity to do it all over again by introducing me to a once shy and quiet three year old needing a loving home. That was nearly two years ago. The adoption should be final later this summer. She makes me proud.
That’s just the way she is. She open-hearted and generous in the biggest of ways. Thankfully, some of her goodness has rubbed off on me.
She makes me proud.
