Welcome to Fatherhood Friday, a collection of awesome posts by cool as ice parents hosted by Dad-Blogs. This is the lunchtable that the cool kids sit at. If you think you can hang, then have a seat and enjoy the fun.
I am at the first high school home football game for the kids’ school. My children are not in high school, but the school goes all the way through twelfth grade. I’m sure these Texas football fans think I’m nuts to be on a laptop during the game, but that’s how important you are to me, dear reader.
I’ve just made my first concession run for my wife and sister-in-law. Bae is a junior cheerleader and will be performing at halftime. The Boy broke away as soon as we got here to find other boys to do “boy” stuff (hope they are putting firecrackers in the orafices of stray animals right about now).
Even though we are in different locations around the field, this is still family time. The weather is a cool 78 degrees(cool for these parts) and a nice light breeze is blowing. The home team, Eagles, are down by three to the visiting Warriors.
Bae and the other cheeleaders just did a cheer that lasted about 30 seconds. She then runs to where we are sitting and says, “I’m thirsty. Got a drink?” I ask her if that little bit of exertion has worn her out already. She has to go to the restroom, but told Adi, my wife, to follow her…at a distance. Wow! I guess we are at the point where we embarrass them. That’s cool because I can’t wait to chaparone her first dance. I’ll show her how we can embarrass
.
A lot of guys want to be left alone when its time to watch football, but I enjoy it most when the family is with me. Being outdoors watching it while everyone does their thing is just as satisfying. The smell fo popcorn, hot dogs, and hamburgers are killing me right now as I am trying to manage what I eat (I will more than likely give in to the temptation-I have been eyeballing the nachos).
The Eagles just scored a touchdown. Yes! Now it’s getting interesting. The extra point is no good. Good effort by the boys.
A kid just asked a girl out to homecoming over the PA system (I hope she says). A skunk just graced us with his pre”scents”. Outdoors in Texas. Halftime is about to start.
It’s great to see other parents like us out here supporting football, the school, and most important…supporting ther institution of family.
It’s Friday night. The lights are bright. The weather is just right. Family and football is in the air.
Just another reminder of how great it is to be a dad. My daughter is about to cheer. Gotta go. Bye.
Mr. Man
P.S. I start my gig tomorrow as the head coach of a 3rd/4th grade flag football team. I’ve coached basketball for several years, but never football. Wish me luck, friends.
