HERO-Savior of the World

by Mr. Man on April 4, 2010

Superman is an iconic figure in our culture. He came from a far away place. He arrived as an infant in a cornfield in Kansas. His purpose was to save the world from evil. To save the world from itself. As Clark Kent, he walked among us. As one of us. Never revealing his true identity until the time was right. He let the world know his true identity when it really needed a savior. A hero.

Jesus is more than an iconic figure in our world. With the Father since before the beginning of time, He came to earth as an infant. Born in a sullen, dirty, stench-filled manger, He came to save the world from evil. To save the world from itself. As the son of a carpenter, He walked among us-taught among us, He resisted revealing His true nature until it was time. He let the world know His true identity when it really needed a savior. A Hero.

When Superman was created in the 1930’s by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the world was in the midst of the Great Depression. People were going without food and were dying in the streets. A totalitarian dictator was in power overseas. He was the catalyst that caused the world to be plunged into World War II. Superman was created during a time when the world needed someone to look up to. Someone to save them. Siegel and Shuster gave the world a hero.

Today our culture is overrun with materialism and greed. Our television sets are loaded with sex and sensationalism. Our society is under economic and cultural siege as we try to give our children the best we can. Frustration and hopelessness move in. We need a hero now more than ever before. Yet, some would rather place their faith in athletes, celebrities, or fictional heroes for their salvation. They are looking for a savior among those who cannot save.

This is the very purpose of the Christ. He died to save me from that the wretchedness that permeates my life. He did the same for you despite our not being worthy of this sacrifice. He has bridged the gap that sin has created between us and our Father, the creator of the universe. He is the HERO. Savior of the World. He is:

  • H-Healing: Comforting when there is pain. Strengthening me in my weakness.
  • E-Eternal: He is forever. Unwavering. Unchangeable. Unstoppable. Eternal.
  • R-Redemption: In my sin, He saves. Gives the free gift of redemption. So undeserved, yet available to anyone who may ask.
  • O-Only One Who Can Save.

We all need a hero whether we realize it or not. The question is…will you look to the Savior of the World?

He is Risen.

  • I am two weeks late reading this, but it is fantastic. I am glad there are people like you that aren't afraid to share the gospel in your space. Our pastor preached about Jesus' redemption power on Easter and what it means not only for eternity, but for now in this life too. He is truly a savior for now and for eternity. He came to set us free and man am I ever glad. Hope you had a great Easter a couple weeks back.
  • Happy Easter!
