There’s Gon’ Be A Discrepancy. A Misunderstanding.

As a kid, I remember our house being broken into. No one was home at the time, so no one was hurt. What I do remember is being scared. Afraid that whoever violated our home would come back. I was also afraid because I didn’t know who would protect us since my father was no longer living with us.  My mother was angry, as were my siblings. Fortunately, the only things lost were all items that could be replaced.

This isn’t supposed to be a heavy post. I just wanted to share with you a scene from The Bernie Mac Show. This is one of my favorite shows. If you aren’t familar with the show, It is about Bernie Mac, the comedian and his wife, Wanda. They’re taking his sister’s children from a hard life in Chicago and bringing them to the luxuries of the Mac home in Los Angeles. Check it out:

Go here and here as well to watch the rest of the episode if you like. Pretty funny.

As Bernie points out at the end, we can take a whole lot of precautions to protect ourselves and our families, but in the end, what do we really control? Do we live in fear of what might happen? I choose to simply live. Sure, there are things that we have in place to protect ourselves and our home, but we cannot become paralyzed by the harsh world that exist around us.

Me and mine will simply…live.

  • We had our home burglarized last 4th of July. They took our flat screen, my laptop and a folio that had all my credit cards. Within an hour of the break in they put about $2K on my cards. At the time I went all Michael Corleone: "In my house! Where my family sleeps!" Fortunately, no one was home and whatever was stolen was easily replaced thanks to insurance. I took new measures to protect my home, but only to protect my family. You can take my 'stuff', I'll get new 'stuff' and since electronics are usually the hot items, the new stuff will probably be better. We haven't let it us affect the way we live, but it the reality of it all is sad.
