Sunday Thoughts: Why Be Normal?

by Mr. Man on July 12, 2009

Today my pastor continued his “Sermon on the Mount” series called Y B Normal. Throughout this series, he has used Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount” (Matthew, Chapters 5-7) to illustrate how the Lord challenges us not to be normal. Not to conform to the ways of this world, but to transformybnormal our minds (Romans 12:2).

What a challenge! Too often we distress ourselves because we don’t fit in. We do amazing and confounding things just so that we can join a club, be a part of a group, or hang out with a certain clique.. Some of us spend so much time trying to fit in that we lose sight of who we are and the type of person that God intended us to be .

My gift is the gift of writing. It is something that I have always have been skilled at and enjoyed doing. I have recently rediscovered this passion through you and this blog. I don’t claim to be the most prolific writer, but my style is my unique stamp on the world. To all of you, I give thanks. In my works, I hope to give Him glory.

Take some time today to begin to rediscover who you are. Take a moment to pray and ask God to reveal his purpose for you in this life. Don’t seek the approval of others. Rather, seek the approval of the ”audience of One”. The only One that truly matters.

Why be normal when you can be so much more?

Great post. I realize more and more everyday what God's plan is for me. It all starts with me being at peace with myself, and radiating love whenever I can (which is most of the time) *smiles* Like everyone else I'm a work in progress, but that's how he made us. We are supposed to learn and grow each day.... If we were already perfect what would we need him for? *smiles*

So true.... After 37 years of living I am finally beginning to truly understand what God's purpose is for me and I am continually working on myself daily to get to where I need to be. Thanks, I enjoyed this. And yes I have enjoyed expressions of yourself in your words. Keep it up!
  • Gosh, I just had a conversation about this last night. I've come to realize that there's a reason I feel like there's so much more I should be doing and that's because I don't think I'm cut off for the status quo humdrum life. I have a need to be creative and think outside the box. Gotta make some moves....asap!
